Angela Evelyn Bassett is an American actress. Her name has been praised for her TV and film work since the 1980s. Her accolades include two Golden Globe Awards, sixteen NAACP Image Awards as well as nominations for Academy Awards and Primetime Emmy Awards. Bassett, who was raised in Winston-Salem North Carolina by her aunt, who was born to New York New York, is a well-known actress. When Bassett was about five, she and her sister were moved into St. Petersburg, Florida where they lived with their mother who was divorced from their father. Bassett decided to be an actress after seeing the stage play Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, starring James Earl Jones. Yale University New Haven Connecticut awarded her a bachelor's degree (1980) with a focus on African American study, and an advanced degree (1983), from the Yale School of Drama. She was introduced to Courtney B. Vance, another actress from Yale and they got married in 1997. Qualification: B.A. Graduated from Yale School of Drama School with a master's degree on African American studies in 1980.
